Beautiful Hardwood Flooring Is the Battle Cry of West Palm Beach Homeowners

Ever have those nights when you?re feeling a little restless?

The West Palm Beach Norton Museum of Art is hosting ?Art After Dark? every Thursday evening--with FREE admission-- from 6:00 to 9:00: www.patch.com by Charlotte Parrott.

Visit the galleries, listen to lectures. Better yet, take a workshop, such as DIY art, a workshop that can really get those creative juices flowing.

Some things should never be DIY?d, though, especially a hardwood flooring installation. Hardwood flooring is beautiful and can add luxurious, rich style to any home, and it doesn?t matter whether your atmosphere is traditional, contemporary or casual. For the biggest selection of hardwood flooring in West Palm Beach, go to Quantum Floors.

If you try to DIY your hardwood flooring installation, these are just some of the mistakes you can make:

1. Not acclimatizing hardwood flooring. Hardwood expands and contracts with weather conditions, and that?s especially so in Florida where there?s a lot of humidity and heat. A professional flooring installer will know EXACTLY how to prepare the floor for weather conditions, and then will also consider it when installing. For instance, if the planks are too close and then they expand, they?ll warp, and you?ll be left with a mess.
2. Using the wrong equipment. Sounds like a no-brainer right? Wrong! You need professional sanders, and the low-power ones aren?t only slower, but they?re more prone to creating dents.
3. Not preparing the subfloor. This could be one of the most common problems, what with uneven floors and leftover debris, not to mention, you could be installing the hardwood flooring over a totally inappropriate type of subfloor.
4. You apply finish poorly. There are water-based urethane and oil-based ones, and both are pretty difficult to apply when you?re not a professional. Water-based ones are only available for professionals to buy, but they most likely dry too quickly for a non-professional to be able to handle. Oil-based needs proper ventilation, and are just too dangerous to handle if you don?t know what you?re doing.
